![]() ![]() Interesting that all this is happening in the summer, when many residents are away. We’re also expecting the revised Lackawanna Plaza redevelopment plan to be posted on the township website tomorrow, July 28 be the subject of a webinar this Monday, July 31 and be on the agenda for the Council’s August 15 meeting. I had “Great Expectations” for your question, and you delivered. Um…was that your take on “A Tale of Two Cities” or your take on “A Tale of One Suburb”? “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the 205 Claremont of wisdom, it was the 205 Claremont of foolishness…” The Council did deserve praise on July 18 for introducing a measure to ban gas-powered leaf blowers, right? So THAT’S why I’ve been seeing so much pink after seeing red when the four Township Council members voted for a certain interim manager. ![]() ![]() Re the aforementioned Barbie, did you know the movie about that “living doll” has been playing at The Clairidge? We could also bring back 19th-century horses to pull the many Teslas in Montclair. Re Hartnett, if we’re going to bring back people, should we go whole hog and also resurrect things like the Marlboro Inn, the Washington Street Y, the Crazy Rhythms music store, the Taj Palace restaurant, and the Bond’s ice cream parlor? There are no figurines of Montclair leaders. No wonder their figurines aren’t selling at Barbie-like rates. Perhaps because when political connections and/or political considerations are involved, almost anything goes for some Montclair leaders. Why am I not surprised that the fire chief still has his job despite a huge “no confidence” vote from the rank-and-file, being sued for alleged racism and nepotism by Black firefighters, being part of Montclair’s dreadful deal to renew fire services to Glen Ridge at a bargain rate, not providing requested data, etc.? But re-hiring Hartnett feels wrong after his mixed record as Montclair township manager during this century’s first decade, when people began making calls with iPhones instead of tin cans tied with string. It’s “fewer slacks,” not “less slacks.” Anyway, will the mayor and the three other councilors who basically demoted Scantlebury want Hartnett to do things like, say, protect the job of the controversial fire chief? Montclair already had less slacks following the 2006 demise of the Olympic clothing store, where I purchased a jacket so durable I still have…a photo of it. ![]()
